From Oct. 7 forward, our tour now becomes a "Whistlestop Tour" as we are travelling entirely by train, north, stopping at communities along the way!   This is the travel of choice for our distinguished colleague in his wheelchair -- we are all looking forward to it!

Fri Sep 12th: Haj Sami and Rawhieh arrive in Washington DC.   Departure via Ben Gurion CONFIRMED!

Donna and Quaker Friend meeting them at airport.

Afternoon:  Meeting with friends

Evening: 6Pm-9pm:  Iftar dinner, Adams Center, Sterling VA

 

Sun Sep 14th:

Afternoon: 1:30PM  911 Unity Walk We'll join thousands of people from all different walks and backgrounds.  It starts at Washington Hebrew Synagogue with a Muslim Call to Prayer, then we will walk to the Islamic Center where the head of National Association of Evangelicals will be speaking, with messages from Rev. Desmond Tutu.  Arun Gandhi leads the walk from Islamic Center to Gandhi Memorial,  2 miles, downhill.

"In a city known for power, the simple act of people coming together with no signs, banners or an agenda - like Gandhi's walks - makes the most powerful statement. The Unity Walk moves us towards a world where we are united rather than divided by our many faiths." 

Evening: Informally joined the Iftar at the Islamic Mosque Cultural Center, Washington DC

 

Mon Sep 15th:

Morning and Afternoon:  Resting to recover from fevers, colds

Evening: Iftar dinner at the Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church VA

 

Tue Sep 16th: 

Morning:10am-11:30am:Visit with El Iman Learning Center.  Their students have been making Pinwheels for Peace to help save the village.

Afternoon: Speaker Shmuel Groag arrives in DC

Evening: Iftar dinner at Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center

 

Wed Sep 17th: Visits with Congress

Afternoon: 3:00-4:30PM State Department Briefing – Location: State Dept. 

Evening: Iftar dinner OPEN

 

Thu Sep 18th: Visits with Congress

Morning: 

9 am meeting with staff of Rep. Mike Rogers, Michigan

10:30 am meeting with staff of Senator Levin's Staff

Afternoon:

1 pm meeting with staff of Senator Webb.  12 children from El Iman school joined us.

3:30 pm meeting with Dr. Gregory Berry, senior staffer for Rep. Barbara Lee 

Evening: Iftar Dinner at the International Institute of Islamic Thought

 

Fri Sep 19th: Visits with Congress

Morning:  Part of our team went to visit a doctor

9 am meeting with staff of Senator Stabenow

10 am meeting with staff of Senator Feinstein

11 am briefing with Anne Norris, Senator Boxer

Afternoon:

1pm meeting with staff of  Rep. Baird

Evening: Haj Sami Sadik presenting the keynote address at the Annual Iftar at the El Iman Learning Center in Virginia

 

Sat Sep 20th:

Resting day.   Another member of our tour got sick and needed a consult with doctors.  We intended to work on info packets and outreach but instead the tour leader's laptop computer crashed.  Repair proved unsuccessful.  Replacement computer was required... only Windows Vista available...

New York City International Peace Day with celebration at the U.N. -- but it was a closed ceremony for the UN General Assembly.

Quartet team said that they are going to raise Area C issues at a closed UN meeting.

Tue Sep 23rd:

3PM  Manhattan:  meeting with Jewish-American groups at Beit Shalom

Tue Oct 7th:  Disneyland!   Why Disneyland on a peace and justice speaking tour?  We hear it is wonderfully designed for accessibility.
